K-1st Grade Basketball Development Program
Our 8-week, K-1st Grade, Basketball Development Program is designed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of basketball while fostering a love for the game! This fun, engaging program focuses on building basic skills through hands-on instruction, activities, and friendly competition. Setting your young athlete up for success when they move up to our Basketball League here at, AmeriSports.

Ages: K-1st Grade
Player Registration Fees:
Individual Athlete: $205
Annual League Membership: $30 (If Not Current)
AmeriSports Jersey: $30 (If you already have an AmeriSports Jersey you do not need to purchase a new one)
AmeriSports Shorts: $20 (optional)
Schedule:
February 14: Registration deadline
Practices begin: Week of February 16th
Practices will be 2 times/ week.
Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6pm-7pm
April 11th & 12th: Tournament with full rules and awards ceremony

Individuals are currently registering for the AmeriSports Basketball Development Program.
If you would like your K-1st grade athlete to participate in the AmeriSports Basketball League, please select that option during registration so we can place them on the appropriate team. (For more information about our Basketball League, click here.)
Please note that by registering your athlete for League Play, they will be playing in a higher skill level, as the AmeriSports Basketball League age divisions begin at 2nd grade.
At the end of the 8 week program, athletes will be placed into teams to participate in the Basketball Development Program Tournament.
All players must have an annual league membership to play at AmeriSports.

Cancellations before registration deadline will incur a $30 administrative fee.
Cancellations after registration closes are non-refundable.

Are the weekly practices half court or full court?
Full court
What size basketball does my child need?
Size 5 - 27.5” – Grades K-1st.
Size 6 - 28.5” – Boys grades 2nd-5th. Girls grades 2nd and up.
Size 7 - 29.5” – Boys grade 6th and up.
Can I bring my own Jersey?
AmeriSports players need an AmeriSports jersey (Jerseys are not included with registration fee).
Am I required to purchase a new jersey every season?
No. AmeriSports players can use the same jersey in future seasons.
Will I be charged a $30 league membership fee every season?
No. This is an annual membership fee for the league.
What if I want my athlete to play in the AmeriSports Basketball League Program and not participate in the Developmental Program?
If you would like your K-1st grade athlete to participate in the AmeriSports Basketball League, please select that option during registration so we can place them on the appropriate team.

Basketball Development Program
Overview

Kick things off with a fun introduction to the sport! Kids will learn the basics of basketball, including the rules of the game, court layout, and team concepts.

Focus on ball control with simple dribbling exercises. Players will work on dribbling techniques and hand-eye coordination to build confidence and skill.

Introduce the proper shooting form and techniques. Players will practice shooting drills that help improve accuracy and build a solid foundation for future development.

Develop passing skills through fun drills that focus on accuracy, timing, and teamwork. Players will learn different types of passes (chest, bounce, overhead) and when to use them in a game.

Agility and footwork are key to becoming a well-rounded player. This week focuses on drills that improve foot speed, balance, and the ability to change direction quickly on the court.

Players will start applying their skills in simulated game situations. They'll learn to make decisions on the fly, positioning themselves on the court, and working together as a team.

It’s time for some friendly competition! Players will participate in scrimmages to put their skills into action in real game scenarios. Coaches provide guidance and feedback throughout.

The final week is all about reviewing key concepts and having fun! Players will engage in a friendly competition to showcase everything they’ve learned over the course of the program.
